18 Mar President’s Message
Are you ready to play some outdoor tennis? We are busy getting the East York courts ready for you. You will be pleased to note that membership fees remain unchanged for 2018. And of course we continue to put new balls on each court weekdays at 7 Pm and weekends at 4 PM.
Nets will be up in early April, but our 2018 season officially starts on Saturday, April 21st. Opening day activities include a fun tennis clinic (no cost) open to all members at 2:00 pm. This is a great time to meet our pros. Afterwards we will have food and refreshments in the clubhouse. We will be holding these free clinics on a monthly basis throughout the season.
Remember, this is a community tennis club and I am pleased to see that almost all of our volunteers from last year are returning. A new addition to the committee for 2018 is Michael Boudreau.
The After School Program for juniors begins on Monday, May 7th. Do submit your applications early as this is a popular activity and the time slots fill up quickly. As the application indicates, you will be asked to choose 2 hours per week at either 4 PM or 5 PM. Our junior inter-county team matches will run on Saturday afternoon.
In May we will start the first of our ladders for men and ladies single play. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow members at your skill level and challenge them to a friendly match.
If you are looking for a more competitive game, contact our team captains regarding inter-county play. The ladies play Monday evenings, the men Tuesday evenings, and the 55+ team matches are scheduled for Thursday mornings. As our event calendar indicates, tryouts are the morning of Sunday, April 22nd.
Part of getting ready for the season the last few months included partnering with the City in improvements to the clubhouse facilities. You will notice a difference.
Thank you for considering the East York Tennis Club this summer. I look forward to seeing you on the courts.
Glenn Dunford, President
